QA Automation Engineer, 2+ years experience

General

We are looking for QA Automation Engineers who will join a strategic automation project, build and improve Java-based automated tests, investigate defects, and work closely with development, product, and DevOps teams.

 

Responsibilities/Activities

• Analyze business and technical requirements and understand the expected application behavior
• Create, maintain, and execute automated tests for APIs, backend services, and business applications
• Run automated test suites, review results, and identify failures quickly
• Investigate failed tests and separate application defects from automation, configuration, test data, or environment issues
• Document defects clearly, including logs, evidence, reproduction steps, and relevant technical findings.
• Support functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing activities
• Improve existing Java automation scripts, reusable components, and test frameworks
• Work closely with Developers, Business Analysts, Product Owners, Test Engineers, and DevOps colleagues.
• Contribute to test execution monitoring, quality reporting, and continuous improvement of testing practices
• Use AI tools responsibly for coding support, test case generation, debugging, technical analysis, documentation, and faster learning
• Learn project-specific applications, technologies, and business processes and apply that knowledge in test design

Requirements

Technical

• At least 2 years of relevant hands-on experience in QA automation, software testing, or quality engineering
• Good Java knowledge and the ability to read, write, and maintain clean automation code
• Practical understanding of test automation principles and of the software testing and defect lifecycle
• Experience with Git or another version control system
• Ability to design meaningful test scenarios and identify relevant functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end coverage
• Understanding of REST APIs and working with JSON and web services
• Familiarity with one or more automation tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or REST Assured
• Familiarity with Postman, Swagger, or similar API testing tools
• Knowledge of JUnit or TestNG
• Exposure to GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar AI tools for coding, test automation, debugging, or documentation
• Basic SQL knowledge and the ability to validate data in relational databases
• Familiarity with Jira, Zephyr, Xray, or similar test and defect management tools
• Exposure to application log analysis and backend troubleshooting
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools such as Jenkins, Maven, or Gradle
• Basic understanding of microservices architectures
• Good analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a structured approach to investigating technical issues

Education

• University degree in Computer Science or other related fields preferred

• Good oral and written communication skills (English and Romanian)
• Quick learner who stays up to date with relevant technologies and engineering practices
• Self-motivated, responsible and comfortable taking ownership of technical decisions and deliverables
• Solution-oriented mindset, willing to take on challenges and make pragmatic, calculated decisions

Nice to have requirements

• Experience in banking, payments, or regulated environments
• Experience with PostgreSQL or Oracle
• Spring Boot knowledge
• Exposure to Docker or Kubernetes
• Knowledge in AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Exposure to performance testing tools such as JMeter or Gatling
• Familiarity with messaging technologies such as Kafka, JMS, or RabbitMQ
• ISTQB certification
