Java Backend Engineer, 4+ years experience

General

We are looking for a Java Backend Engineer to build scalable, reliable digital payment services in a modern, cloud-native Agile environment.

 

Responsibilities/Activities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services supporting domestic and international payments, direct debits, and account top-ups
• Build new payment features and improve existing functionality using Java 17 and the Spring ecosystem
• Design and integrate REST and SOAP services across internal platforms and external systems
• Use Kafka and event-driven patterns for reliable, asynchronous communication between services
• Write clean, testable, maintainable code and create unit and integration tests
• Contribute to technical design decisions, with a focus on scalability, resilience, performance, and secure payment processing
• Work closely with frontend engineers, QA specialists, business analysts, and product stakeholders to deliver complete solutions
• Take part in code reviews, pair programming, knowledge-sharing sessions, and continuous improvement activities
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including daily meetings, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
• Improve code quality, monitoring, deployment, and operational reliability in an OpenShift-based cloud-native environment

Requirements

Technical

• At least 4 years of working experience in a similar position
• Strong hands-on experience in Java backend development, ideally with Java 17
• Solid knowledge of Spring Core, Spring Boot, and Spring MVC
• Practical experience designing and integrating RESTful and SOAP web services
• Experience with Kafka or another enterprise messaging platform
• Good understanding of microservices architecture and scalable distributed systems
• Experience with Hibernate or another ORM framework
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and common design practices
• Experience writing unit and integration tests and applying clean-code principles
• Ability to troubleshoot performance, integration, and reliability issues in backend services

Education

• University degree in Computer Science or other related fields preferred

Nice to have requirements

• Experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes, or another container orchestration platform
• Previous experience in payments, digital banking, or fintech
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture, delivery automation, monitoring, and production support practices
• Experience working in a product-oriented team with fast feedback loops, pair programming, and collaborative code reviews
