Java Backend Developer, 5+ years experience

General

We are looking for Java Backend Developers to build scalable, high-availability digital banking services for SME customers using Java, Spring, Kafka and modern DevOps practices.

 

Responsibilities/Activities

• Understand business requirements, clarify open points and challenge them when a better technical approach is available
• Design and develop Java backend applications, from high-volume and low-latency services to critical high-availability systems
• Build and maintain REST and SOAP services and integrations with messaging, databases and other enterprise systems
• Take part in code reviews, development shadowing, testing, technical design and Agile ceremonies
• Write clear technical design documentation and apply Java engineering best practices
• Build, improve and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines as part of a “we build it, we run it” way of working
• Provide L3 support for live applications, investigate issues and contribute to stable production services
• Work closely with the team to improve development processes, engineering standards and delivery tooling

Requirements

Technical

• At least 5 years of software development experience, including at least 3 years of hands-on Java development
• At least 2 years of experience with Spring Data JDBC or a comparable data-access approach using PostgreSQL, Oracle or Apache Cassandra
• Strong Java knowledge, including practical experience with Java 8 and/or Java 17, J2EE concepts and object-oriented programming
• Strong hands-on experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot and Spring MVC
• Strong experience building and consuming RESTful services, plus SOAP web services and web-service security
• Experience with Hibernate and persistence/data-access patterns
• Experience with Apache Kafka and enterprise integration concepts such as message queues, web services and database integrations
• Experience with Git and build/release tooling such as Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, Artifactory and SonarQube
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design, class hierarchies, constructors and clean Java design practices
• Hands-on unit and integration testing experience with JUnit and Mockito.
• Good knowledge of SQL, JSON and XML
• Good understanding of enterprise integration patterns and microservices architecture
• Good understanding of CI/CD practices and automated delivery pipelines
• Familiarity with Docker and/or OpenShift environments
• Familiarity with Linux environments
• Familiarity with AWS cloud solutions

Education

• University degree in Computer Science or other related fields preferred

• Good oral and written communication skills (English and Romanian)
• Quick learner who stays up to date with relevant technologies and engineering practices
• Self-motivated, responsible and comfortable taking ownership of technical decisions and deliverables
• Solution-oriented mindset, willing to take on challenges and make pragmatic, calculated decisions

Nice to have requirements

• Experience using Jira for issue tracking
• Experience with IntelliJ IDEA in enterprise Java development
• Previous experience in banking, finance or fintech
